Katherine R. Hopkins

Katherine R. Hopkins concentrates her practice on Taft-Hartley multiemployer fringe benefit fund representation, with an emphasis on ERISA and IRC compliance, plan documentation, fiduciary liability, and ERISA litigation. She also advises clients on a wide range of complex employment issues—including workplace policies, handbooks and procedures, leave laws including the Family-Medical Leave Act, wage and hour issues, workplace harassment and discrimination, and employment and non-competition agreements. In addition to her work at AsherKelly, Katherine is a part-time faculty member at Wayne State University Law School where she teaches classes in Judicial Externships, Workers’ Compensation, and Employee Benefits.

Katherine graduated from Michigan State University in 2008 where she received her Bachelor of Arts in English and from the University of Michigan Law School in 2016 where she served as a Note Editor on the Journal of Law Reform and was a quarterfinalist in the 2016 Henry M. Campbell Moot Court Competition. Prior to starting her legal education, Katherine worked as an English Teacher at Stoney Creek High School in Rochester, Michigan.

Katherine is licensed to practice law in the States of Michigan and Indiana and is a member of the Labor & Employment Section of the Michigan State Bar and the Oakland County Bar Association where she also serves as a member of the Legislative Committee.

Prior to joining AsherKelly, Katherine was a two-term judicial clerk on the Michigan Supreme Court and an Associate Attorney in the Litigation and Alternative Dispute Resolution practice group at an international law firm headquartered in Detroit.
